How accessible this site is, and what isn’t right yet.

What we aim for

GOVvpat targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the standard the ADA Title II rule references for state and local government web content, and the one most of our customers are held to. Where WCAG 2.2 adds criteria at A and AA, we treat those as in scope too.

What we have done

• Colour contrast is measured rather than assumed. Body text and interface elements are checked against 4.5:1 and 3:1 in both the light and dark themes.
• Reader preferences are built in: text size, higher contrast, text spacing to the values WCAG 1.4.12 names, always-underlined links, and reduced motion. These change our own design tokens — we do not use an accessibility overlay, and we would advise you against vendors who do.
• Sign-in fields declare their purpose to password managers, and no field blocks paste.
• Exports are produced as tagged documents. A conformance review delivered as an inaccessible PDF would be a poor advertisement for the work.

What we know is not right yet

Listing these is the point of the page. A statement with no known gaps is a statement nobody tested.

• We have not completed a full audit against every criterion. Our own conformance report is not yet published, for the reason in the next section.
• Assistive-technology coverage is not yet broad. Our testing to date has not covered every screen reader and browser pairing our customers use, and we will not claim it has.
• Some data tables are wide. Criterion tables scroll horizontally on small screens. They meet the reflow requirement, but they are not comfortable, and comfortable is the better target.

Our own conformance report

We will publish a VPAT for GOVvpat — and, unusually, the grade our own analyzer gives it, on the same page. A tool that reviews conformance reports should be willing to be reviewed by itself.

We are holding it until the reviewer completing it finishes DHS Trusted Tester certification, so the methodology line can name a real tester, a real method and real assistive technology. Our own rubric marks down reports that name none of those; publishing one that fails our own test would be worse than publishing nothing.
